Headed South – Day 3

Driving the Skyline Drive to Lynchburg, VA

It’s not a quick trip.

There are actually several ways you can drive to Lynchburg, VA from Hazelton, PA, but there’s no slower way than the Skyline Drive – so naturally that’s the way we went! But there was a reason for that.

You see, slow it may be – up and down and hairpin turns every 100 yards – but it’s also stunningly beautiful views and topography that makes you think “If we miss this curve, we’re going to find out if an over-loaded Honda Pilot can fly…”

A little hard to pick out, but this photo is taken from a lookout at an altitude of about 3000 feet – or roughly 2000 feet above that little farm you see down there. It’s pretty cool.

Monday, Day 4

So that was day 3.

Day 4 began with a 9am departure, but we covered a good bit more distance, since we weren’t in “sight-seeing” mode. Too, once out of the mountains of Virginia, the roads straighten out and level off, making for some serious miles made good. And look what we found!

Yes friends, we’re back in the land of palm trees and Spanish moss!

That’s much better.

Living the dream in 32'. We left Maine on August 18th, 2016, and have gradually worked our way south until we felt warm enough. After spending the summer in Maine, working to replenish the cruising kitty, and rehabilitating an old house, we’re headed back on the boat, bringing Sionna back home to northern waters.
